Syracuse Wins Again. Or did they?
If anyone watched the WVU vs Syracuse basketball game then you know what I am talking about. Rather then explaining it, check it out here. Goal tending? Appears so.
So the question is why are we seeing more and more controversial calls? Not just in college basketball but we have seen major controversial calls in every sport as of late. Is it because the referee's are getting worst and worst? Is it the referees are betting on the games more and more? Or is it simply that the game is getting to fast for people to make every call correctly.
I am not saying a referee should make every single call right every single time. It's hard to do. I reffed high school basketball for a couple years did I miss calls? Of course. It's hard to get every call right with a two man crew. In college though they use a three man system and should not miss many calls especially a potential game tying basket like in the Syracuse game.
We have the technology to be able to see every call why not use it? I am not saying we should use replay on every single call because it would make the game last longer and get a little ridiculous. I am saying that if there is a questionable call that can change the out come of a game, use replay. You hear a lot of people say that using replay takes away the integrity of the game. Would you rather have the right call or save the integrity of the game? Personally I would like to see the right call be called whether it uses the human eye or the human eye looking at a monitor. As fans who help fund these sport events don't you think we have the right to have the right calls made? Many controversial calls in the history of sports have changed either the outcome of a game or have even changed history. (Sorry Tiger's fans, at least you got Prince Fielder) I think we need to focus less on the past and how the game was, and adapt with technology like we do in almost every other aspect of our lives.
