Idiot Of The Day

Today's idiot of the day comes from a guy who is a sex offender and failed to register in his new state and won the lottery. Now he might not get to claim his winnings and he also could get in some big trouble for not registering. He even already recieved a check from the lottery in his first annual check without them knowing what he had done, or well in this case not done (register). Here is the story from the Boston Herald website.

"Luck is running out for a high-risk sex offender living in Uxbridge who scratched off a winning $10 million lottery ticket, but now could face charges for not letting Connecticut authorities know he moved out of state.
Daniel T. Snay, 56, a Level 3 sex offender who was convicted in Massachusetts four times in the 1970s and 1980s, paid $20 for what turned out to be one of just 10 winning tickets in the Billion Dollar Blockbuster game. On Jan. 30, Snay received the first of 20, $500,000 annual checks, according to the lottery.
Massachusetts lottery officials were unaware when Snay cashed in his ticket that he had allegedly violated the law by moving to Massachusetts without notifying Connecticut authorities, said lottery spokesman Dan Rosenfeld. The lottery does not run criminal background checks on its players or winners, he said.
All Level 3 sex offenders are required by law to notify local police of their current home and work address.
The Connecticut Sex Offender Registry lists Snay as a registered sex offender who has not verified his address since 2004. Sex offenders are required to law to verify their work and home addresses every 90 days, said Connecticut State Police Trooper William Tate. Connecticut state police are investigating, he said.
“Our sex offender unit is looking into the non-compliance issue,” he said.
Snay was convicted of indecent asault and battery on a person 14 years or older four separate times in Massachusetts from 1974 to 1987, according to the Massachusetts Sex Offender Registry.
The Massachusetts Sex Offender Registry board lists Snay as living and working in Uxbridge.
Snay’s attorney, Joseph Fabbricotti could not be reached for comment this morning, but he told the Worcester Telegram & Gazette this weekend that Snay is a divorced dad of five who wants to use his winnings to buy a house in Connecticut where his children live.
Fabbricotti did not immediately return two phone messages left at his Westboro law office this morning. A working phone number for Snay could not be found.
Rosenfeld, the lottery spokesman, said the lottery commission does not perform criminal background checks, although the Department of Revenue checks for liens and financial judgements before pay-outs, Rosenfeld said. An Uxbridge resident contacted the lottery after word spread that Snay had won.
Rosenfeld said while the commission was “very concerned” about Snay’s background, he has a right to buy scratch tickets.
“The vast majority of our players are regular, law-abiding, hard-working individuals. We regret any difficulties this may have caused,” Rosenfeld said in a statement.

If he was in the north country they would have gotten him to register because signs pointing to where he lived and that he is a sex offender would have been placed allover. Now that he is a millionare will this guy finally get some friends?
